“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” — Steve Jobs

Born and raised in Nepal, my experience in technology sector has been unique. Regardless of the education level, the opportunities are scant in Nepal as it still is a developing country. However, I continued to pursue the best education possible in Nepal. Since childhood, I was always fascinated with solving complex math problems and I was always curious about technological advances.

It was no surprise then that I would gravitate towards computer club while I was in my high school years. While a member of computer club, we tried to find ways to introduce new technologies to fellow students and recommend school on what technologies could best facilitate the education of students. We also ran tutoring sessions for Q-basic and HTML. Teaching others to run code and help debug them consistently gave me the biggest satisfaction.

Following my interest in helping the technology sector in Nepal, I pursued Electronics Engineering as my major. After completing my Electronics engineering, I started working in Cybernetics, a networking company. I interfaced with Chinese programming partners to develop & implement various projects such as GPS System, Internet Management Solution and 3G Wireless Routers. While I was working on advancing the technology sector in Nepal, I still felt something lacking.

Even while pursuing my Bachelor’s, I had found myself inclined more towards programming languages. Apart from lack of new technologies, Nepal was also suffering from lack of software and applications to provide efficient interface with the customers. However, in Nepal, once you major on something, there are very few ways one can pursue a career change.

However, having immigrated here in US, I feel like I have finally found a way to kickstart a new career which I feel like is the next natural progression. It’s never too late to start doing something that you desire. I am excited to be a student in the Flatiron School and I can’t wait to start my new journey as a Programmer!
